ITA Bridge Award Deadline Nears

Robert Regis Hyle | February 09, 2016

There are a number of continuing themes discussed in the pages of ITA Pro magazine and on our website, but none reaches the level of importance as the need for business and technology to combine resources if an insurance carrier has any hope of running a successful company in the 21st century.

We at the ITA stated clearly our feelings on the subject when we began the ITA Bridge Award in 2015. After much discussion among members of the ITA advisory board, a group of business and technology leaders much like you, we decided to initiate this award to honor someone from each side of the aisle.

Our second annual ITA Bridge Award will be handed out in April at the ITA LIVE conference in Fort Lauderdale, from April 20-22. The deadline for your Bridge Award entry is nearing: Friday, Feb. 19. We hope you take advantage of this opportunity.

Over the years I’ve written dozens of stories on how successful insurance carriers operate. The tie that binds these companies is the ability of the business side and the technologists to work together to make the company operate more effectively than it has in the past.

Success can be determined in multiple ways. IT leaders may be more familiar with current changes in technology, but unless they know how the business side operates and what the business leaders need to do their job, companies might as well go back to the old days when changes often bore the label of “an IT project.”

Business leaders have become more aware of what technology can do today, but the nuances that innovation brings about can be lost on even the sharpest of the so-called “tech junkies” that inhabit the business side.

I hope you will take some time to look over the Bridge Award submission form. In our IT Chat this month, Jag Randhawa, CIO of CAMICO Mutual Insurance, points out that IT leaders don’t ordinarily like to “toot their own horn” about the success they have achieved, but occasionally it makes sense to show the enterprise the power of this mixture of technology and business acumen.
