The Drumbeat for Insurance IT Reaches a Crescendo at IASA

A complaint heard too often is technology has dehumanized us. People stare at their phones or tablets and put aside any personal communication. Those who disagree with that assessment claim there is a big world around us and it is more important than ever to be connected.
Connections need to be personal as well, not just through Twitter or Facebook. Last week’s IASA Annual Conference & Business Show was an example of that need. A couple of thousand people—most of whom were interested in insurance technology—made their way to Las Vegas and reacquainted themselves with friends and colleagues as well as made new connections with peers.
They also were able to find potential partners ready and willing to assist them in their technological needs. This is, after all, the largest gathering of solution providers for the insurance industry and in a crowded field such as insurance IT, many were hoping to make a big splash.
IASA is now the place for technology companies to make major announcements on products, acquisitions, and new customers. An information provider such as ITA is inundated with news releases on paper and thumb drives and, a week later we are still publishing some of them so they don’t get lost in a news media data dump.
For instance, Bolt Solutions explained its relationship with Google Compare, the new personal auto rating service introduced by the technology giant and how insurers can sample what Google Compare has to offer without locking-in to any long-term commitment.
Of course, it wouldn’t be much of a conference if Guidewire didn’t have an announcement or two.
These are exciting times for the insurance industry as new tools are making carriers consider the future and their place in it.
