Origami Risk provides integrated SaaS solutions designed to help organizations—insured corporate and public entities, brokers and risk consultants, insurers, third-party claims administrators (TPAs), risk pools, and more—transform their approach to managing critical workflows, leveraging analytics, and engaging with stakeholders.
In December, Origami announced the availability of new online tools that enable employers in all sectors to track COVID-19 vaccination status of their employees and monitor any outbreaks at their facilities in all parts of the world. We spoke with Origami’s Ellen Moser on the technology behind the tool:
Please tell us a little about Origami Risk.
Origami Risk has been in business for the past decade with a focus on providing software solutions and expertise. Drawing on constant technology innovation, the Origami team works with clients to address critical aspects of their risk management needs, attain efficiencies, and reduce costs in such areas as compliance, operational risk, health and safety, and insurance program management. A consistent, 30-percent annual growth rate stems from Origami's ability to deliver software and service that help clients achieve their desired business outcomes. Going forward, Origami will continue to expand the product offerings available to both existing and new clients — solutions for managing insurable risk, addressing emerging exposures, facilitating GRC, improving safety, and helping insurers, MGAs, TPAs and brokers provide enhanced services that drive results.
What types of technologies are Origami using to implement these services?
We were able to leverage the versatility of Origami’s existing single-platform SaaS technology to develop and build out the functionality for both the COVID-19 employee vaccination and outbreak tracking tools. What’s unique about these two new solutions is that they are available on a stand-alone basis and do not require the purchase of other Origami services.
Who are your primary customers for this – what types of businesses and what size?
On an immediate basis, the vaccination tracking tool is being used by clients in healthcare, long-term care, and government entities to coincide with the federal government’s prioritization of the vaccination roll-out to those sectors. At the same time, the outbreak tracking tool is available to employers of all sizes, especially those with concentrations of employees in single or multiple facilities, including healthcare, long-term care, manufacturing, food processing, distribution, and all categories of retail.
What has been user response so far?
The initial response has been overwhelmingly positive and we’re receiving interest from clients in multiple industries both throughout the U.S. and internationally. Within a week of our initial launch, we have scheduled more than two dozen demos. In addition, with our pilot initiatives, some of our national clients in healthcare, food services and retail are already fully up and running with the new capabilities.
Can you share some specific examples of how it’s being used in the field (can use company name, or not for attribution)?
There are a number of examples. One client, a prominent senior care provider with multiple facilities throughout the U.S., was involved in the pilot for both tools. This client has been actively monitoring COVID-19 employee infections, exposures and quarantine measures using the newly developed outbreak tool. Since the vaccine became available, they are also now tracking employee vaccinations at all of their U.S. facilities against specific goals they set for inoculations within well-defined timeframes. In addition, another client, a large food service company is using Origami to track COVID-19 cases and outbreaks related to all of their operations in various parts of the U.S.
How specifically are insurers using the output of the tool to mitigate risk for customers?
A retail industry client is actively sharing outbreak information with its workers’ comp insurers, which in turn are coordinating the reporting of the outbreaks to appropriate state regulators. At the same time, several insurance brokers have expressed interest in using the outbreak tracking tool to help their clients with their overall COVID-19 risk assessment, management and response activities.
Does Origami have plans to roll out any other pandemic-related products?
Across our organization, we are continuously engaging with our clients, carefully listening to their evolving needs and collaborating with them on new solutions to help them understand and manage risk more effectively, reduce costs, increase efficiency, and become more successful. Dating back to March 2020 when COVID-19 began to spread throughout the U.S., each of Origami’s new solutions to help employers address the varied issues they face from the pandemic has resulted from our ongoing collaborative process with clients. Every day, we are continuing to innovate to address the individual needs of our clients, including those related to pandemics and the effective management of their varied and unique exposures and challenges.
