Speaking of scary … insurers have a new competitor nipping at their heels: auto manufacturers, who are starting to compete by providing more typical claims services, according to a collision repair expert who recently spoke at the National Insurance Conference of Canada (NICC).

Insurers “should be reimagining their value propositions to serve consumers for a very different future and start taking more substantial steps to get there before others beat them to the punch, whether from within or outside the industry.”

Scary-smart U.S. insurers are rapidly adopting new technologies such as artificial intelligence and drones to better serve their customers, and they are looking to business process outsourcing (BPO) providers to help them roll out these advancements, according to a new report by Information Services Group (ISG), a global technology research and advisory firm.

"The insurance industry is one of the early adopters of automation," said Jan Erik Aase, director and global leader, ISG Provider Lens Research. "Insurers have a vast number of applications for robotic process automation, and service providers are introducing bots that can help carriers with underwriting, claims processing, data entry, billing and several other functions."
